Attacks by sharks in U.S. waters


Each year there are a dozen attacks and there is one or two deaths in U.S. waters.
In comparison, nearly 500 Americans die each year by storms. In the USA, the majority of attacks took place in southern California and Florida.
Off California, including Hawaii, about an attack by an east perpetrated by a great white shark. In parallel, many sharks who is content to observe them without attacking.
The year 2001 was dubbed "the year of a shark in North America.
Indeed, 51 attacks have occurred from Florida to Virginia during the summer.
The shark's most dangerous waters of the U.S. remains the shark tigre. It is common in the southern USA and often thrives in shallow waters.

Chaque année, on dénombre une douzaine d’attaques et on déplore un ou deux morts dans les eaux américaines.
En comparaison, près de 500 américains meurent foudroyés chaque année. Aux Etats-Unis, la majorité des agressions a lieu dans le sud de la Californie et en Floride.
Au large de la Californie, à Hawaï notamment, environ une attaque par an est perpétrée par un grand requin blanc.
En parallèle, de nombreux plongeurs rencontrent ce requin qui se contente de les observer sans attaquer. L’année 2001 a été baptisée « l’année du requin » en Amérique du Nord. En effet, 51 attaques se sont produites de la Floride à la Virginie pendant l’été.
Le requin le plus dangereux des eaux américaines reste le requin tigre.
Il est commun dans le sud des Etats-Unis et se nourrit souvent dans les eaux peu profondes.

Rate Your Game

Find your tennis rating using National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) categories. The League uses the Purity of Competition rule to manage players playing level.

2.0-2.5
Needs on-court experience. Has obvious stroke weaknesses but is familiar with basic positions for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although court coverage is weak. Can sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.
Admin Comments: Recreational Division, About 10% of the players are in this division. You're an advanced beginner in this category. We hope the minimum ability players have is to be able to serve and maintain a couple stroke rally.

Fairly consistent when hitting medium-paced shots, but is not comfortable with all strokes and lacks execution when trying for directional control, depth or power. Most common doubles formation is one-up and one-back.
Admin Comments: Skilled Division, About 20% of the players are in this division

You're in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Skill rating.
Admin Comments: Competitive2 Division, This division appears when the city's league is large enough and we have enough returning players. The addition of this division allows the league to fine tune the levels and the matches tend to be closer. Playoff qualifiers play in the Competitive playoffs.

Has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots, but still lacks depth and variety. Starting to exhibit more aggressive net play, has improved court coverage and is developing teamwork in doubles.
Admin Comments: Competitive1 Division, About 45% of the players are in this division. The majority of non-trained adult players are at this level.

You're in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.
Admin Comments: Advanced2 Division, This division appears when the city's league is large enough and we have enough returning players. The addition of this division allows the league to fine tune the levels and the matches tend to be closer. Playoff qualifiers play in the Advanced playoffs.

Has dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with some success. Occasionally forces errors when serving. Rallies may be lost due to impatience.
Admin Comments: Advanced1 Division, About 20% of the players are in this division. Rusty players should start off in the Competitive Division first. Scores are closely monitored by the league for Purity of Competition Rules.

4.5
Starting to master the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has sound footwork, can control depth of shots and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult shots.
Admin Comments: Elite Division, About 5% of the players are in this division. Most players need to earn their way into this division or have proof of 4.5 rating.
